A collection of biofluids available

Human Biofluids

High quality human biofluid samples for all of your research needs

AMSBIO supplies an extensive range of human biofluids to cover your research needs. Serum, plasma, blood and cerebral spinal fluid are available from many healthy donors as well as a large representation of patients with neurological disorders and other common diseases and cancers. All procedures during biofluid collection are performed under GLP compliance in sterile conditions, ensuring high quality samples.

Serum

A wide range of human serum samples from many healthy donors, as well as a large representation of common human diseases and cancers

Plasma

Human plasma samples derived from whole blood of healthy, diseased and cancerous donors, obtained using standard blood fraction separation procedures

Whole Blood

Whole blood is defined as is any unmodified collected blood. It is combined with an anticoagulant during the collection process, but is generally otherwise unprocessed. Combination of anticoagulants is available and other additives can be added upon request.

AMSBIO can provide many different human serum samples, whole blood research samples, animal and human blood components from a single or a pool of donor. In addition, you may specify the blood type (A+, A-, B+, B-, AB+, AB-, O+, O-).

All samples are collected in FDA licensed facility and pathogen tested according to FDA guidelines for the following: HBsAG, Anti-HCV, Anti-HIV-1/1, HIV-1 RNA, HBV DNA, HCV RNA, Syphilis.

Whole blood derived specimen type we can offer:

  • Buffy Coat: Concentrated leukocyles (white cells)
  • Leukapheresis: Larger volumes of leukocytes can be derived by leukopheresis
  • Cord Blood
  • Red blood cells

Serum

Serum contains all protein not used in blood clotting (coagulation) and all the electrolytes, antibodies, antigens, hormones and any exogenous substances.

AMSBIO provides serum derived from whole blood obtained from animal and Human donors and processed within 24 hours. Blood sample is centrifuged and serum is isolated and stored in the vapor phase of liquid nitrogen. All procedures are performed under GLP compliance and sterile conditions (see technical resources page for SOPs).

Serum (off-the-clot) is derived from whole blood donations too. However, after the natural process of blood clotting, the cellular and fixed components of the blood are centrifuged. Ingredients from the platelets, which may have an impact on growth of cells are retained. It has not been exposed to any anticoagulant.

We have single and pooled samples. In case of pooled samples, number of donors in pools can be indicated when requested.

Most of the serum samples available, have matched PBMC and plasma samples.

Plasma

Plasma is the clear, straw-colored liquid portion of blood that remains after red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets and other cellular components are removed. It is the single largest component of human blood, comprising about 55 percent, and contains water, salts, enzymes, antibodies and other proteins.

We supply samples derived from whole blood obtained from many different animal and Human donors, which are processed within 24 hours. Blood sample is centrifuged and plasma is isolated and stored in the vapor phase of liquid nitrogen. All procedures are performed under GLP compliance and sterile conditions.

Plasma collections are kept as individual units or pooled with plasma from other donors. In case of pooled samples, Number of donors in pools can be indicated when requested.

All plasmas are collected in commercial FDA licensed facilities and must pass all current applicable FDA-mandated tests for infectious pathogens. These include HIV, Hepatitis and Syphilis.

Most of the plasma samples have matched PBMC and serum samples.

Types of plasma we have available:

  • Recovered Plasma: plasma that is not used for transfusion can be used to fractionators that further manufacture plasma into injectible proteins that are critical, lifesaving treatments for patients with a variety of blood and immune disorders (separated from its cellular components).
  • Source Plasma: plasma that is collected from healthy, voluntary donors through a process called plasmapheresis
  • Fresh frozen plasma
  • Platelet rich/poor plasma
  • Platelet concentrates
  • ACD anticoagulant plasma
  • EDTA anticoagulant plasma
  • Heparin anticoagulant plasma
  • Sodium citrate anticoagulant plasma

PBMCs

Human Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells (PBMC) from whole blood are obtained from different diagnositic donors and isolated within 24 hours. PBMCs are isolated through density gradient centrifugation via Ficoll-Paque. PBMCs are cryopreserved in a controlled-rate freezer and stored in vapor phase liquid nitrogen to maintain high post-thaw viability readily prepared for a variety of cell-based experiments. PBMCs are frozen in fetal bovine serum and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) based media. All procedures are performed under GLP compliance and sterile conditions (see technical resources page for SOPs). Certificate of Analysis available upon request.

PAX gene RNA/DNA Blood is 2.5mL of whole peripheral blood obtained from US donors and frozen at -80C within 24 hours of collection intended for RNA isolation. All procedures are performed under GLP compliance and sterile conditions (see technical resources page for SOPs).

In addition, we can supply a PBMC subtypes, see as follows (links to product):

Cerebrospinal fluid

AMSBIO provides the highest quality cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) clinical research samples and residual diagnostic specimens. CSF is a colourless body fluid found within the tissue that surrounds the brain and spinal cord. Samples can be taken via lumbar puncture can reveal the intracranial pressure, as well as indicate diseases including infections of the brain or its surrounding meninges. CSF can be used to study biomarkers for various neurological conditions including Alzheimer’s Disease, Parkinson’s Disease,  Multiple Sclerosis and more. CSF samples can support the development of diagnostic tools and new treatments for these chronic diseases.

All specimens and ethically obtained and provided de-identified and with annotated demographic and clinical data.
