Poly-ADP-ribose polymerase (PARP) catalyzes the NAD dependent addition of poly-ADP-ribose (PAR) to adjacent nuclear proteins. PARP plays an important role in DNA repair but can also lead to apoptosis by depleting the cellular NAD pool. PARP inhibition has been shown to prevent tissue damage in animal models of myocardial & neuronal ischemia, diabetes, septic shock, & vascular stroke.
PARP Assay Kits measure incorporation of biotinylated PAR onto histone proteins, allowing screening of PARP inhibitors & measurement of PARP activity in cell and tissue extracts. PARG Assay Kits allow screening of PARG inhibitors & measurement of PARG activity in cell extracts.

PAR antibodies are specific for PAR polymers synthesized by a variety of PARP isoforms (PARP-1,-2,-3, tankyrase, vPARP, and others).
