Company Mission

AMS Biotechnology’s mission is to be a profitable premier provider of quality life science research reagents and services helping stakeholders strive to develop new medicines for current un-met needs. This mission is achieved by providing small and medium size manufacturers a unique marketing partnership in Europe and by providing state of the art and cost effective solutions to end user and partners.

Company History

Formed in 1987 by Sandy Allan and Alex Sim the company’s first offices were in Madrid, Spain. Over the following three years further offices were opened in Italy, Switzerland and the UK. During the formative years of existence AMS helped launch the successful sales campaigns of Stratagene, Hybaid and Invitrogen providing them with an important foothold from which to develop their global brand expansion.

In 1992 AMS partnered Pharmingen, and assisted in the development of their vast sales success, through until 1996 when they were sold to Becton Dickenson.

During 1995 3i and two other private sources invested in AMS helping support the growth of the European coverage with offices being added in Sweden and Germany. Part of the investment was in a quantitative PCR instrument.

In 1997 the company restructured resulting in the departure of Sandy Allan. The instrumentation activities ceased and subsidiaries in Sweden, Italy and Spain were sold. The development of the ImmunoKontact brand continued with licensing agreements with Novartis and a number of academic institutes.

Concurrently with the expansion of the ImmunoKontact (IK) brand, AMS Biotechnology partnered with Ambion from 1999-2002 driving sales forward 10 fold in only three years. Through a strategic arrangement, amsbio assisted in the formation of Ambion’s own European division.

amsbio - ImmunoKontact

amsbio continues to serve the growing European market from facilities in Switzerland, Germany and the UK. This latter location provides the hub to support physical logistics and distribution as well as housing the multi lingual marketing and technical staff.

amsbio believes that ambitious companies in life science research need state of the art solutions to be able to win success and help them establish a critical mass. The current amsbio portfolio is a testimony to this. Specializing in Genomics, Proteomics and Immunology, amsbio continues to offer a wide range of solutions from prime manufacturing partners. Key areas include cell migration, invasion, adhesion and proliferation where a unique set of kits are currently available. AMS Biotechnology serves the genomics segment providing perhaps the biggest range of tissue products available from a single source. RNA, DNA, protein and tissue sections and arrays are available from diseased and normal sources and multiple donor provision is also offered..

In 2004 ImmunoKontact expanded custom services to add monoclonal antibody production and custom protein expression to the already popular peptide and polyclonal antibody services . These are available through AMS..

The global customer base grows significantly and now AMS Biotechnology ships to all major countries involved in life science research. Key brands including Seikagaku, Zymolyase, RNAbee and RNAStat that are now available in the US from amsbio.

The long term objective is to reduce the carbon footprint and to maximize the recycling of materials. In 2008 a significant reduction in the use of polystyrene boxes, the use of dry ice and the minimizing of multiple shipments was made through the investment in US facilities in Southern California. These facilities consolidate shipping from and to multiple locations in the US and Europe and lead amsbio to its first step in constructing its global green bio-bridge.

AMS Biotechnology and ImmunoKontact will continue to develop elements of its custom service provision. There will be DNA damage screening, Cell Assays, Tumour Xenograft, and primate and rodent services in the future.
