Company History
Formed in 1987 by Sandy Allan and Alex Sim the company’s first offices were in
Madrid, Spain. Over the following three years further offices were opened in
Italy, Switzerland and the UK.
During the formative years of existence AMS helped launch the successful sales
campaigns of Stratagene, Hybaid and Invitrogen providing them with an important
foothold from which to develop their global brand expansion.
In 1992 AMS partnered Pharmingen, and assisted in the development of their vast
sales success, through until 1996 when they were sold to Becton Dickenson.
During 1995 3i and two other private sources invested in AMS helping support
the growth of the European coverage with offices being added in Sweden and
Germany. Part of the investment was in a quantitative PCR instrument.
 |
In 1997 the company restructured resulting in the departure of Sandy Allan. The
instrumentation activities ceased and subsidiaries in Sweden, Italy and Spain
were sold. The development of the ImmunoKontact (www.immunok.com)
brand continued with licensing agreements with Novartis and a number of
academic institutes.
|
Concurrently with the expansion of the ImmunoKontact (IK) brand, AMS partnered
with Ambion from 1999-2002 driving sales forward 10 fold in only three years.
Through a strategic arrangement, AMS assisted in the formation of Ambion’s own
European division.
AMS believes that ambitious companies in life science research need state of
the art solutions to be able to win success and help them establish a critical
mass. The current AMS portfolio is a testimony to this.
AMS continues to serve the growing European market from facilities in
Switzerland, Germany and the UK. This latter location provides the hub to
support physical logistics and distribution as well as housing the multi
lingual marketing and technical staff.
